Features of Dirleton Kirk

Early in the 20th century, many church furnishings were changed and/or moved around. The pulpit had previously been in the middle of the north wall. It was then moved down and to the side. 

The church was further remodelled in the late 20th century to make the attractive and welcoming church of today

Dirleton Kirk has a number of beautiful stained-glass windows 

A selection of the windows are shown below along with brief descriptions.  More detailed descriptions are to be found on plaques next to each window in the church.

On the south side of the Archerfield Aisle is a window of ‘St Francis and the Animals’ by Margaret Chilton. There are 90 wild birds and animals grouped around the lone figure of a woman. It was gifted in 1935 by Mr. Jackson Russell of Archerfield, in memory of his wife who had drowned in North Berwick harbour.

The large 3-part window at the east end of the church, above the communion table, was created as part of the 1930 restoration works (when the eastern door was removed). The window depicts ‘I am the Vine’.
Also in the chancel area, on the south wall is a glass installation commissioned at the church’s 400th anniversary in 2012, by local artist Douglas Hogg. This tells the story of the beginnings of Dirleton Kirk.
